I'm in the preliminary stages of designing a freenas system. I don't have any hardware at the moment but will be mounting this in a media rack in my mechanical room.
Intended usage in order of importance:
1. Surveillance camera storage- haven't decided on a piece of software yet
2. Plex media server- will setup to convert on the fly but would be nice to have some transcoding capability. Will be shared between 10-20 users mostly not on the local network
3. radarr-sonarr
4. torrent client
5. sia server storage
6. game servers(minecraft etc)
Wan: 2.5 gig
Lan : 10 gig wil likely be sfp+fiber
Case: rackmount- likely 2U+ I have 28 U available
CPU: intel 3xxx or amd 3600--really open to options on this
RAM: ECC 32gb
Storage: 5-6 10 gig wd red. Unless there is a more bang for your buck approach. Could do either raidz or radz2
PSU: whatever Wattage is needed. prefer seasonic supplies
