Hello everyone,
I've run into a strange issue when setting up a new storage server using TrueNAS where I get an error on 2 "drives" stating that they have unreadable and uncorrectable sectors. While researching, I found that the likely need would be to replace the problem drives, but that seemed to not match my scenario.
I have:
- Replaced these drives with new ones, but the new drives also reported the same error.
- Removed both problem "drives," where the server then decides that there are two different drives in different spots that are the new issue.
- Individually tested the sectors on each hard drive using a different computer where I found that they were all error free.
- Uninstalled TrueNAS and reinstalled it after wiping all of the disks, which still resulted in the same issue.
- Replaced the storage controller with an LSI SAS2008 since we were originally using a P410 RAID controller (which was not recommended).
*This new controller allowed the drives to communicate directly through to TrueNAS, but the error was still there.
- Updated the server's BIOS, which did not solve the issue either.
I was thinking that there was an issue with the server itself, but I am not sure.
I'm running low on ideas so anything is much appreciated.
Here's some information on the setup:
HP Proliant DL180 G6
LSI SAS2008 HBA in IT Mode
8 x 4TB WD Enterprise SATA Hard Drives
1 x 120GB Kingston SSD (Boot Drive)
TrueNAS Version:
TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1
Errors:
Device: /dev/da2 [SAT], 2 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors.
Device: /dev/da2 [SAT], 2 Offline uncorrectable sectors.
Device: /dev/da6 [SAT], 2 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors.
Device: /dev/da6 [SAT], 2 Offline uncorrectable sectors.
Let me know if more information is needed.
Thank you!
