A few days ago I lost my pool (4x2Tb WD disks (1x as spare))
at first I thought maybe a drive had gone down or hardware fault. All disks were showing up in the gui. I un-attached and tried to Auto Import which came back as 'error: The volume "JNasRaidZ" failed to import, for futher details check pool status'
I tried zpool import -f and it came up with an error which prompted me to run zpool import -F.
That ran and said I would loose two minutes of data but finished and seemed ok. (the GUi shell was small so I lost the details of what it said)
I tried the Auto Import but it fails to see the pool 'JNasRaidZ'.
I ran zpool status:

pool: JNasRaidZ
state: ONLINE
scan: scrub repaired 0 in 2h35m with 0 errors on Sun Nov 23 02:35:06 2014

But still nothing? any ideas what to do next? The gui runs fine, the drives appear fine. It just won't import them?

It won't import because that zpool output shows the pool is online. Reboot your box and try to auto-import again.

And do yourself a favor and get rid of that RAIDZ1. I'd go with RAIDZ2 and no hot-spare over RAIDZ1 even in my sleep.
