You guys are absolutely right its a great area to be in, however after nearly 12 years experience in Microsoft, VMWare and Citrix to change my path now would probably drop me back to the bottom of the pile. Especially after reading the post from you guys, you made me feel like a computer illiterate end user with the knowledge you have, your leaps and bounds ahead of me!

I've been a bit of a jack of all trades in my Career (Microsoft, VMWare and Citrix qualified to a low/medium level) however I have now decided I want to become a specialist in Citrix and try to gain as many qualifications as I can face, firstly starting with upgrading my lonely 1 certificate to the next level, hence the new Lab setup.

Friday I'm going to roll out FreeNAS I think on my little machine so will let you know if it fails at the first hurdle!

EDIT: who knows maybe I enjoy my ZFS experience so much I give up on Citrix and start educating myself!

That is very true. When I started in this project I was basically as illiterate with this stuff as you are right now. It's really hard to break free from Microsoft, VMWare, Citrix, etc. But it's really not about breaking free, its about adding ZFS as a tool on your toolbelt. Most everyone uses ZFS to store data for other things like Microsoft workstations and VMWare ESXi hosts. If you can understand all of the layers from the ZFS side through the network, then through all the virtualization layers to the VM guest's OS, you are worth some money to potential employers. ;)
