Hi,

Installed freenas on optane pci-e ssd. Is there way to use that disk also as zfs cache + log disk?

At least it is not possible in gui, but maybe in shell?

Holy taxation Batman!
Don’t install FreeNAS on Optane!!
Don’t use the same drive for slog and L2ARC!!

Unless you maxed out your memory don’t use L2ARC.
A slog needs battery backup and I don’t think your Optane have that? Are you sure your usecase will benefit from a slog?

Sorry, I am just stupid user :)

What is better solution? storage drives are 15 * 2,5TB sas (battery backuped) and only os is currently in optane pci-e drive.

Usecase? Hardware? Topography?

Backup storage. Anyway, decided to buy more storage for log and cache.

Setup is something like this:

1* optane p90 for freenas installation
15* 2,5" sas/sata 2.5TB for storage
2* ssd for cache and logs
sata controller with backup battery (25 sata/sas 2.5" slots)

32GB bytes of memory. 2*Xeon quadcore

Does this sound good?

For backup a slog and l2arc will make zero performance improvement. Seems like you just enjoy spending money so go ahead if you want.

the TCO on this system isn’t really justified but sure. Have fun.

Just one point, battery on the controller doesn’t help the slog, it needs its own backup.
