What do we think about PCI to M.2 adapter?

I already bought one for my gaming PC but I'm thinking about adding it to the list of hardware for a new NAS. Are they to be avoided?

If your mainboard and CPU support 4x4x4x4 bifurcation of a PCIe x16 slot, generally they are great. Check your mainboard manual.

I've slapped one of these into my system, 2 drives are the boot pool, other 2 are the apps pool and everything worked as expected. Was goofing around with Proxmox during initial hardware testing and was able to pass through the 4 NVME controllers without an issue to a TrueNAS Scale guest with no problems as well....
