I have installed freenas8.2 and it booted ok and basic config looks ok from the few tutorials I have looked at. I chose UFS and setup the striped RAID single volume, no problems. I thought for my first install and test it was all going well. However:

1. There is no option for setting a dataset within the volume manager.

2. I have been able to setup a CIFS share and went ahead and setup 3, now any file that I save into any of the 3 shares show in all of them.

Being a complete noob is there something that I have missed?

reading the documentation ( it's available under "documentation" )

zfs is not a simple volume manager that's why some learning curve is needed.
