Hi Guys,

i recently notices on boot i get the following error

Code:
vmx_init: processor does not support VMX operation
module_register_init: MOD_LOAD (vmm, 0xffffffff82a1c470, 0) error 6

Researching i found its related to THE CPU does't support Intel VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT). i use Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2683 v3 @ 2.00GHz (2000.00-MHz K8-class CPU)
checking the intel specs features my CPU supporting EPT, VT-x and VT-d https://ark.intel.com/products/81055/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2683-v3-35M-Cache-2_00-GHz. in my X10SRi-F BIOS VM Support and VT-d are both enable. as i run FN on ESXi i booted bare metal to FN and can see that error as well so i don't think its related to ESXi.

POPCNT feature showing https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/virtualization-host-bhyve.html
Code:
Features2=0xfffa3203<SSE3,PCLMULQDQ,SSSE3,FMA,CX16,PCID,SSE4.1,SSE4.2,x2APIC,MOVBE,POPCNT,TSCDLT,AESNI,XSAVE,OSXSAVE,AVX,F16C,RDRAND,HV>

is there any setting in the BIOS i might missed and need to enables? or any other solution to fix this error?

Wait a minute. You're running FreeNAS inside of a VM, then trying to run Bhyve VM on that? As far as I know, Bhyve doesn't support nested VMs. I would stick with running your VMs in ESXI.

@Avision,

Did you resolve? I have the same problem. Installaiton went fine, but when booting the VM, I get the same error. I'm running ESXi 6.7.

I had the same issue on same setup FreeNAS 11.3 on ESXi 6.7.

Under the guest os configuration for the CPU I enabled "Expose hardware assisted virtualization to the guest OS " and the log no longer showed the message and could utilize Bhyve.

I'm having the same issue now.

I had an ESXI (6.7u2) with an Intel Xeon e5-2650v3 (ES). Today I swapped it out for an Intel Xeon e5-2670v3 and now I'm also getting that error.
Have you ever resolved it AVSION?

Can't seem to edit my post so I'll make a new one. I just spun up a new FreeNAS vm. It also gives that error, but it does however continue booting..
My actual VM seems to hang on setting up plugins I believe.

So I seem to have solved my issue. I just loaded the installer ISO and installed a fresh upgrade over the existing installation.
Took a very long time to boot the first time, but now it seems fine. No settings were lost.
