Viewing log files

Are log files accessible via the GUI? Or do I have to ssh into FreeNAS to view them?

And what is a recommended file viewer?

Open Shell and type more /var/log/messages.

less gives you features that more doesn't have, like scrolling backwards, so consider using less instead of more.

You can also display the messages log in the footer of the GUI. The option is in settings

I have this option set but you can only see the last few entries

You should be able to scroll back. I think the log prunes all but the last 1000 lines.
