Hello,

PS. Im new to FreeNAS, but i have used search before posting this topic, just wanted to be sure that i understand whole procedure.

I have "FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201605021851 (35c85f7)" installed, as virtual machine in VMware. It is doing only 1 role: NFS share (4 shares). Total amount of data on all shares 1 TB.

I would like to upgrade to latest FreeNAS version (for moment it is FreeNAS 11.3-U2.1).

I prepared for myself a plan, but just wanted to ask someone if im getting it right.

Steps:
1) Turn off FreeNAS
2) Create snapshot of virtual machine
3) Power on FreeNAS
4) Create a config backup
"System ➞ General ➞ Save Config"
5) Perform update from web interface (or better from ISO image?)
"System ➞ Update"
6) Reboot system and verify that everything is working OK.
//In case of if its not working --> just rool back to snapshot
7) If everythig is ok, after some time (+- week i guess) upgrade Pool
"Storage ➞ Pools and click "Settings" to upgrade. Click the Upgrade Pool"

Am i right? Is it "safe" to upgrade from 9.10 to FreeNAS 11.3-U2.1 directly?

Thank you.

upgrade to latest 11.2
save config

Thanks for reply!
One last question: should i upgrade Pool each time between this steps? (from 9.10 to 11, from 11 to 11.2, etc)

Definately NOT. You have no fallback if you do that. Wait till the end
If you have jails you will need to convert from Warden to Iocage when you look to move from 11.0 (11.1 )
