Unsure if I should keep jails, move to VMs or in the future try docker.

Hello folks. I'm planning on having Plex running full time, Minecraft server , couch potato, sabznbd and sickrage running on my freenas. I'm running freenas 11 at the moment. Would you guys suggest running these apps in jails, docker host or one VM server? I'm not sure which route to go.

Choose the one you are most comfortable administering.

Docker is really targeted to application developers that are packaging their application stack components in deployable bundles heading for the cloud with elastic load balancing of some sort. Most of your applications seem to be full appliances, not applications, that are specially packaged and tested (i.e. game engines, media systems) - those were never expected to be Docker's target use case, and getting a stable, blessed build is best done with VM images.

There is no reason why you cant run both. But for sanity your game and media servers are probably most reliable in VMs.

If you're going to go the VM route I'd try to get them all to run in one VM to save on resource utilization.
