Truenas scale is a freeware OS to use? Can I use all the features? What exactly does the purchase on the website mean? The support or even the system?

TrueNAS SCALE, (and Core), are free to use.

Support is only through this Forum and various users. You can report bugs, which may get fixed by iXSystems. The more people who experience a bug, the more attention it will get. And the more likely it will get fixed.

Free users of TrueNAS SCALE & Core sometimes act as testers, before that version of the software goes to the Enterprise users. Thus, both iXSystems & free users benefit.


iXSystems does sell pre-built Mini servers for people that want one. They do not come with a software support contract.

iXSystems also sells pre-built full Enterprise NAS servers with software & support contracts.
