Hello,

I am trying to replace a drive. The zpool online command would require a device name, but I My current pool status: http://pastebin.com/VYCWmWuh

According to the gui, the device is da8, but as you can see I am not getting device names listed with zpool status...The device that is listed unavailable is supposed to be the new drive, and the number that is there, 6075023609475281399, was there from the old drive...which I think is odd.

When attempting to replace from the GUI I get this error: "Unable to GPT format the disk "da8""

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Replacing a drive? I bet you have manually detached the cable power of one of the disks to test it, right? :)

# zpool online alex1 6075023609475281399

or

# zpool replace alex1 6075023609475281399 da8p2

I entered the three above and attempted to post the results. It said that it needs a forum admin to approve?

Should I used pastebin again instead? It has been a few hours...

Also, thank you for your help so far, much appreciated!

Try this:

# gpart create -s gpt da8
# gpart add -i 1 -t freebsd-swap -s 2G da8
# gpart add -i 2 -t freebsd-zfs da8
# zpool replace alex1 6075023609475281399 da8p2

If that doesnt work, paste:

# sysctl kern.disks
# diskinfo -v da8

It looks like I got further with the second commands.

Thanks

Thanks, I tried these yesterday and posted a response. I guess it takes some time to clear. But I believe the second set of commands got me somewhere, hopefully my post shows up soon.

Go to View Disks, click to wipe da8, select full. It will take a while.
Once it is finished go to replace the disk in the GUI.

Ok, I went in and selected Full with random data and I got this error:

Failed to wipe da8: dd: /dev/da8: Operation not permitted ]

I am really tired to offer support over a forum, this is exhausting.

If you're into it jump in irc.freenode.net #freenas, my nick there is grzybowski
