Is there any real advantage of using ACHI over IDE on regular hdd? All that command queuing etc. does it matter?

It might but it depends on the speed of your system.

In a nut shell ACHI creates a direct link to the system bus and bypasses your CPU which allows the SATA hard drive direct access to the system bus which makes things quicker and less overhead on the CPU.

In my situation I cannot run ACHI because my BIOS doesn't support it which is odd yet I can max out throughput of the 1GB connection. This might be due to my processor being able to handle it.

So, if you can enable ACHI you should do it especially on a lower powered system.

Just my two cents.
