Thanks for look have an older PC and bunch of old discs which thought might be fun to configure FreeNAS on to learn something new.
However, it does not support booting from USB -HDD just usual USB-ZIP,CD,Diskette etc.
Is It possible to therefore use the CDROM with say -RW to store the config on or am I limited to using a dedicated HDD for the FreeNAS install?
I have 1.5Gb of memory and an AMD64 processor and really just for me to access for storage and media streaming - mostly for playing with FreeNAS.
All help greatly appreciated

Try a USB thumb drive (or one that plugs directly into motherboard usb headers) Install only needs 4GB.
