Synology equivelent build

I'm about to buy a (£350ish) Synology box (414) before I do I thought I'd just ask if I can I build something the same spec for cheaper?

I'm not new to building PCs but am a bit unsure when it comes to Server hardware.

Can anyone give a full break down of required parts, Initially I need to house 4x 4tb WD Red but would be useful if I had room for more. Also I don't mind something twics as big as the sinology but no bigger.

No one is going to make you a parts list that is just dumb. you need to do the research yourself.

What SweetAndLow said. Sorry, nobody here is going to do your proverbial job for you.

You wouldn't ask someone to pick out a house for you, or pick out a car, and we don't pick out parts.

And for that price, you're only going to get a synology. Price is directly related to quality, and at that price you don't command a very high bar on quality.

I almost went the Synology route, although I was looking at the 1513+. I've managed to build the spec in my sig for more or less the same price and will be getting way more bang for my buck. That was the deciding factor for me, not to mention I get to build it myself and will have more flexibility in what I can do with it. Just do a little more research before you pull the trigger on a 414. That is if you're willing to stretch your budget out a bit.
