Hello,

I have an in-house Freenas setup on hardware that is dying. Is it possible to just move the drives over to new hardware? The drives are setup as SATA 0-3, no RAID, no JBOD, I'm letting ZFS handle everything. With that, I would think I could just move the drives to a new mobo. Any know for sure?

Current setup
* Tyan S3992 mobo, using the mobo's Serverworks SATA ports, (4) 3TB WD Red in ZFS (RAID10-ish)
* FreeNAS 9.3 x64

Yep. Drives are portable.

And if you "save config" your can restore it on the new box as well.

Great, thanks.

One more related questions...

Years ago with SCSI RAIDS you had to move drive0 over to drive0, drive1 over to drive1, etc when trading discs on controllers. In this case, with ZFS, I imagine I can drop the drives in any location and it will work?

Yeah, I'm old.

Correct, location doesn't matter.

So what you are saying is that ZFS is a honey badger, it doesn't give a fsck? :)
