Hi all,
I am looking for suggestions on what supermicro motherboard to use for my build. I am not sure whether to go with an X9 or X10 series. I was hoping to purchase something that I would not have upgrade right way, while trying to stay in the $200.00 range if at all possible. I would also like suggestions on an Intel chip to with your suggestions.

  • I will be using a seasonic 650 power supply (gold certified)
  • 16 gigs of Kingston ECC ram (Will purchase with motherboard).

Thank you in advance.

I personally kinda like the MBD-X9SCM-F-O

for the processor you get a pretty little bunch, that have nice cache sizes and have AES instructions. The motherboard will do serial terminal and also virtualization (which I don't use).

I kind of like the E3-1280, but I think any of the E3-1200 series is fine, the e3-1220 will run you like 200 bucks for a nice processor.

The motherboard will cost you about 160-180 I think and the processor should be less than 200. Your power supply is probably huge for what you need, and the gold certification at the power levels you are drawing will probably mean nothing.
