SOLVED Strange AFP Issue

I mount it with afp for certain. Over the weekend I down-graded 2 machines to Mavericks. The interesting point in this is that one works just fine with my test of creating folders in my share on the FreeNas... and one doesn't. No discernible difference between the machines' OSX install, nor in the account setup.

Out of frustration, I deleted my volume, and re-built everything. Magically, it works! Clearly, I had something wrong with the permissions.
