I'm looking to build my first FreeNAS system using a Fractal Design Node 304 case. The case itself supports a total of 6 drives. I currently have four 3TB drives. In my setup I would like to do raidz2. My question is what are my expansion options for the future? Is it better for me to stick with 4 drives or max the case out with 6 drives right away? Based on that input what will my expansion options be in the future if I stick with this case? Will I need to delete my pool in order to expand my storage? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Motherboard: ASRock Rack Mini ITX DDR3 1333 Motherboards C2550D4I
RAM: Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1600 ECC UDIMM
Hard Drives: 3TB Western Digital Reds - (4 or 6 depending on responses)
Case: Fractal Design Node 304

If I keep 4 drives do I have to upgrade all the drives in order to see increased storage or can I change the drives out one at a time over time and get an increase as I go?

You can increase them one at a time, but the additional space won't be available until they are all upgraded.
