I'm having trouble setting up a home share for access from Windows systems. I have a dataset for use at the root of home folders for accounts, /mnt/void/home. When I attempt to set up the SMB share the Use as Home Share is greyed out. There are no other SMB shares.

I've tried the documentation and youtube videos but just can't seem to determine the magic incantation needed to set this up. Can someone help?

I think you need to select "No presets". You currently have selected "Default share parameters".

Out of curiosity, is that documented anywhere?

And thanks! That was the source of my frustration.

Out of curiosity, is that documented anywhere?

It's briefly explained in the tooltip if you click the (?) button next to the option.

The Documentation Hub refers to it as so:
You can set a share Purpose to apply and lock pre-defined Advanced Options for the share. To retain full control over all the share Advanced Options, choose No presets.

And thanks! That was the source of my frustration.
Welcome!

I usually select "No Preset" when I create a new share, and change individual options under "Advanced" to my liking. Most of them follow the same template.

That's much cleared to me now. I was looking in all the wrong places!
