I figure I should probably post this to the samba team, however any news on smb 3.0 coming to samba and thus free as ?

You should probably ask the Samba developers. They'd be responsible for supporting SMB 3.0.

Check the FreeBSD site, if it's not included in FreeBSD, then it probably won't be included in FreeNAS. Then it also depends on which version of FreeBSD it is or will be included in.
