Hello there, random citizen.

I've been getting these emails from my NAS for maybe 2 weeks now:
This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

host name: Pandora's Box
DNS domain: 8.8.8.8

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/ada0, 3 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors

Device info:
WDC WD30EZRX-00AZ6B0, S/N:WD-WCC070254514, WWN:5-0014ee-25d5df87f, FW:80.00A80, 3.00 TB

For details see host's SYSLOG.

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.
No additional messages about this problem will be sent.

It started, as said, for about 2 weeks ago, but with only 1 unreadable sector. Today i got this mail above, which says there's now 3 unreadable sectors.

Here's a picture of the volume:

It seems fine if you look there.
As you can also see on the picture the volume is raidz2, so i'm assuming that if the drive breaks down, i should just be able to replace it, without any data loss, right?

So, my questions:
1. What should i do?
2. Since it's RAIDz2, can i just replace the drive and move on?
3. Is my precious data in any danger!? :(

My NAS:
FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64
ASRock C2550D4
16GB Kingston ECC RAM
Silverstone SFX ST45SF-G 450W
5x WD Red WD30EFRX 64MB 3TB
3x
WD Green WD30EZRX 64MB 3TB <----- (One of these is the failing drive)
Eaton Powerware 3S 550 DIN

Many thanks!

You'll definitely want to replace it. Three bad sectors is two weeks points to a very failing drive. Follow the manual's instructions and your data will be fine.

Right above the encrypted pool section. You want 6.3.12 - Replacing a Failed Drive

I had the exact same thing on the same model of drive.

Just got it replaced under warranty.
