I have a ZFS scrub configured to run twice a month. Last nights run generated four separate email messages which I've copied below in the order they were sent. I'm not at all sure what the messages mean?? Or how serious they are. I also have regular short and long SMART self tests scheduled. Here are my questions:

1 - I've done some poking around in the forums but I'd like to know what the messages below mean and what action I should take?

2 - I do not have Periodic Snapshot task scheduled for this Vol. Should I do this?

3 - Obviously I'm out of my area of expertise. I would like to know if anyone knows of a resource/guide for maintaining the health of the NAS Vol and how to respond to various issues that can occur.

Thanks!

ada3 is failing and needs to be replaced.

Please post your hardware, FreeNAS version and output of zpool status (as required by the forum rules).

Thanks Eric for the quick response. I've posted my hardware and the Zpool status.

The status report indicates that there are no data errors but the ZFS Scrub email notices indicate errors??

I'm guessing that ada3 has some issues but they were repaired? I assume that the error rate on this drive will get worse with time. I'm thinking of watching it and only replace if there are additional errors.

Must've been something the SMART long test caught outside the used area of the drive.

You can keep using the drive, if you're not absolutely paranoid, but keep an eye on it. RAIDZ2 is probably safe enough for the drive to stay a while longer.

Can you post the output of smartctl -a /dev/ada3 (please use CODE tags or Pastebin, to improve readability)?

Ok now this is a real noob ques. I've opened the Shell and run the command as you suggested. How can I grab all of the output? Is there a way to echo to a text file?

The easy way is to just connect via SSH.

You can also use more (or less) or pipe the output to a file.
