Hi,

I recently set up my first FreeNAS server, everything works great except for the transfer speeds. I'm not getting anything above 20-22 MB/s.
Tried to troubleshoot, but everything seems fine and couldn't find any reasons on what might be the bottleneck.

Here is my setup:
CPU: Dual Core, 2.9GHz, 2MB cache, Intel Celeron G3930 Kaby Lake
RAM: 16 GB : 2xKingston ValueRam DDR4 2133MHz 8GB ECC
HDD: 1TB mirror : 2x1TB WD Red, SATA 6GB/s (SATA 3.0)
Network: Gigabit Ethernet, Realtek RTL8111H

Connecting from MacbookPro via AFP, using WiFi.

When copying files from one location in FreeNas to another the speeds are much higher.
Speeds are much lower when writing/reading via the network.

Tried ifconfig and here is the output:

% ifconfig

re0: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500

options=82099<RXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_MAGIC,LINKSTATE>

ether 30:9c:23:3f:6f:10

hwaddr 30:9c:23:3f:6f:10

inet 10.0.1.80 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.1.255

nd6 options=9<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED>

media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>)

Replace the Realtek NIC with one of the Intel ones recommended in these forums.

using WiFi.
This is going to limit your maximum connection speed. What kind of WiFi are you using? Details matter and it makes a huge difference.
