Should we allow snapshots to be shared?

Snapshots can be mounted as a read-only file system and then shared out. This would allow a point-in-time view of the files being snapshotted.

While the sharing can be done in the GUI, I don't see how to mount the ZFS snapshot. The command line looks like this:
mount -t zfs tank/www@zfs-auto-snap_hourly-2012-02-11-1917 /mnt/snapshot/tank/www

What if we add a button to the Storage/Snapshots page next to "Clone Snapshot" button called something like "Expose snapshot" as a CIFS,NFS, etc. share?

This would be a good feature request for 10. If you create one at bugs.freenas.org, post the issue number here.

FWIW, snapshots are already exposed via CIFS shares and the Previous Versions/Volume Shadow Copy Service. Not sure what kind of support is available outside of Windows, but it's a start, if it fits your use case.

Yes, this I know. I was hoping for a multiple OS solution.

Thanks.
