Im trying to build a new NAS and I want the status LED's to function to indicate a failed drive or RAID rebuild activity.

Is there a consumer NAS chassis that supports these LED's on the backplane? If not, is there a server chassis that would look good on furniture and not in a rack that would support this feature?

I have read that SFF-8643 does NOT require a sideband connector but SFF-8087 does, is that right?

You guys are awesome thanks for the help.

SFF-8643 and SFF-8087, as well as their external equivalents, are all electrically equivalent. That means four SAS channels plus side and in one cable.

Is there a consumer NAS chassis that supports these LED's on the backplane?
It is a reasonably common feature on 5.25" HDD cages, but will require fiddling with both hardware and software.

That's something you're never going to find, I'm afraid.

Have you searched the forums? There are a few threads that discuss this, but results are mixed.
