fairly new to freenas, but have some very very basic experience on linux systems.

Just ordered a new home server that I'm planning to setup

After reading on the forum, this is the setup I went for:

motherboard: ASRock C2750D4I
case: Fractal Design Define R4
memory: Crucial 32GB (2 x 16 GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ECC
p supply: CORSAIR RM Series RM650 650W
case fans: 3 x COUGAR CF-V12H Vortex Hydro-Dynamic-Bearing
hdd: 5 x Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB

Is this a good setup in your opinion? anything to add?

will have a lot of torrents to store and some important backups.

They still have the hard drives on sale the 3TB Red NAS.

I was thinking z3 raid, but not sure, still reading into it.

Do I need to buy more hard drives?

Sometimes when you don't know much, it's hard to figure out where you should start with this :)

thanks again for your time, and your reply.

as a first I understand that the memory is not compatible with the system.

Anyone knows witch would be the best memory for this motherboard?

thank you

Do yourself a favor and run away if you read "registered".

However, there are some 16GB Unbuffered DIMMs and they should be compatible with your system (they do not work on Intel processors older than the Avoton Atoms, including Haswell Refresh).

I'm not sure those fans are any good... Some research may be in order - cooling is extremely important for the HDDs.

What are your expansion plans? I'd recommend a better PSU, like a Seasonic G-series (their model numbers end in RM), probably a G450 which has enough power for some ~13 drives.

Looks like I messed up on this setup :)

Newegg RMA ...

What would be the ideal motherboard cpu combo. I'm considering to return this setup and plan on getting a new one.

I was under the impression, that I'm getting the right stuff here.

The motherboard is fine, but that RAM will never work. Just get Unbuffered RAM and you're good to go, when it comes to the essentials.
