Hi All,
Work has upgraded a fair bit of server gear recently and I have picked up a few nice things that I am looking into turning into a second NAS.
I plan this NAS on being a backup for my main NAS and as a system to test diffent things on without having to worry about downtime.
Also when I get around to upgrading my main NAS I can up grade this chassis first.
I have picked up:
supermicro X8Dai motherboard with a single 5520 CPU and 12GB of Ram (Thinking of replacing the 5520 with 2 x 5630's)
extra 8GB of RAM for the Supermicro MB
2 x Supermicro Cases 1x3ru (11 hot swap drivebays, tripple redundant supplies) & 1x 4ru (8 hot swap drive bays 2 redundant supplies)
Other stuff:
3x5.25" 4bay 3.5" sata Hotswap caddy (pulled from gutted supermicro chassis)
intel s5000 MB and CPU's (too old to be of much good I think)
AMC 3ware sata card (will play with this to see if i can do anything of use with)
What do you lot think?
Regards
Wooly
