hello everybody i'm a freenas newbie.

recently bought this system from ebay to build my freenas it was recommended in one of the other threads:
-Supermicro 2U - 10 Bay - X10SLM+-F - Xeon E3-1220 v3 Quad Core NAS 32GB Server
-HDD: 2 x Internal Bay Mounts with 1 x 120GB OS HDD + 1 x 500GB WD RE Enterprise 7200Rpm HDD Installed
-Memory: 32GB DDR3 ECC
-Backplane: BPN-SAS-825TQ SAS/SATA Supported HDD
-INTERFACE: LSI SAS 9211-8I KIT - 8-Port Int, 6Gb/s SATA + SAS, PCIe 2.0 HBA

I also bought 6 8tb WD mybook (WD white label), shucked them and put them in the hotswap bays. Also changed all the fans in case for noctuas (stock fans were really loud).

My problem is that I don't see the drives in FREENAS only the 2 old drives. Tried the 3.3V mod, didn't work. I used the one of the sata cable on a drive and saw it in the BIOS so the new drives are good. In the BIOS it says that the pci e port of the SAS9211 is unpopulated. Tried the other 2 pcie ports but still didn't see the new drives.

Do I have a bad SAS card?
this is also a old system so it should have worked earlier. Freenas was preinstalled when I got the system I only updated Freenas to the latest version.
Should I just use the 6 onboard sata ports and boot from a flash drive?
