Having problems with reporting, some time's it just stops working. Reboot does not fix this. Net data is also doing the funky chicken. It happens in the new Ui or legacy. If I use collectd It will try to Load the plugins. Netdat Gets this error: Cannot open file '/var/log/netdata/debug.log'. Leaving 1 to its default. Not sure if it is related. If I do get Netdata loaded I get 1-3 sec gaps randomly the gaps are blank with no data, almost like my system is freezing.

Code:
"ls -lh /var/db/collectd/rrd/"

lrwxr-xr-x    1 root  wheel     9B Jan 29 21:58 freenas.____.Net -> localhost
drwxr-xr-x  193 root  wheel   193B Jan 28 22:14 localhost
-rw-r--r--    1 root  wheel    24M Feb  6  2018 rrd_dir.tar.bz2
[/CODE]

What kind of boot media are you using?

It is hard to know from the description, but I have a feeling it might be a bad boot pool. I have seen a lot of cases where one of the two wear out from years of read/write activity and it causes all sorts of odd behavior. If you can, I would suggest getting a backup of your configuration database, do a fresh install on new media and reload the config. Try it, if you can, to test the behavior.

These are new as of 1-10-19 I will order two cheap ssds and replace them but do you think thats the problem? I've had usb go on me be for even be for 9.0. I keep my config backed up. Question for you is there a post or way I can have my config emailed to my self on a schedule ? Btw this is on my primary FreeNas this is happening.

I don't have an answer for you but, to narrow this down a bit,
Code:
"ls -lh /var/db/collectd/rrd/"

lrwxr-xr-x    1 root  wheel     9B Jan 29 21:58 freenas.____.Net -> localhost
drwxr-xr-x  193 root  wheel   193B Jan 28 22:14 localhost
-rw-r--r--    1 root  wheel    24M Feb  6  2018 rrd_dir.tar.bz2
What does
Code:
ls -l /var/db/collectd/rrd
show you? Note the lack of a trailing slash.

Which pool is the system dataset on? Are you storing the reporting database in RAM or on the system dataset? On 11.2,
System -> System Dataset

It is hard to know from the description, but I have a feeling it might be a bad boot pool. I have seen a lot of cases where one of the two wear out from years of read/write activity and it causes all sorts of odd behavior.
If one of the two wear out, the failed drive will exhibit write errors and the pool will become degraded. There may be read errors on some USB flash drives as the controller/NAND goes from read-only to FUBAR. This would also cause the pool to become degraded. What sorts of odd behaviour have you observed?

The USB drives that have failed under 'normal' use in FreeNAS do not always follow the smooth transition that you might expect. The data errors often present in strange ways that don't make sense. For example, one of the USB drives that I used several years ago, before I stopped using them, suddenly decided that it wasn't a 32GB drive any more. It still works as a 16GB drive, but the sudden change, while FreeNAS was trying to use it, caused problems. It sure would be nice if all USB flash drives behaved exactly the same and exactly as expected, but they don't.

Ok, thank you for the example. If half the NAND disappeared and the controller presented what was left of your ZFS partition as the entire device, wouldn't that destroy the vdev? Not ideal, obviously, but you would know immediately.

Purely a theory on my part, but it was once true that the entirety of the OS was loaded memory resident and the boot media was not needed after boot except for saving the configuration data. This is not still true, but it appears that the components that are running from memory will continue to work even after boot media failure and the things that do not work are the things that require access to the boot pool. As the FreeNAS operating system gets larger, less things are staying memory resident and the workload on the boot media appears to be increasing. It has been my observation that a FreeNAS system will continue to do the things that it was already doing for some time after the boot media fails and will only present errors when it attempts to access the media. Media failure is not always the same, so the errors that present are not always the same but random misbehavior is often solved by reinstalling to fresh boot media. Many users have also tried to re-install to the existing media to have the installation attempt fail. I have seen a variety of different failures discussed here in the forum.

I suffered several corrupted USB boot devices (single and mirrored). Especialy since FreeNAS 9.3 or so. At a certain point I was done with it and switched to a single SSD and have had no problems at all. The thing is that I always have been able to revive those USB sticks by using Diskpart (on Windows). I still use them for general purposes. I stopped wondering what happened with those sticks on FreeNAS.

Impressive collection :). It took me only 4 failed USB drives to switch to SSD.

I was being pig headed I've should have change over to a SSD a long time ago. I have a feeling like this may solve my problem.For 19.99 for a kingston 120Gb 1 million hours MTBF. Wow SSD'S have gone down in prices.

I had two USB sticks fail within six months of each other a few years ago and I have been using laptop size spinning disks for my boot pool since then.
The reason many people choose SSDs for the boot pool is reliability. I can't argue with it, especially with the prices falling the way they are.

San disk by far has been my longest laster. Also I do not think it helps with Amazon/Ebay fakes its almost like 1 out 3 is a fake. I even had fakes from san disk. I am sure some one RMA it from a differnt seller as new in the box. I have used PNY, Dell, San Disk, Kingston, Crucial, All have failed or cuased some really wacky FN Glitche's PNY/San Disk last the longest.

How did you get this
/var/db/system/rrd-ea02119b0df4495ba64ec1dbdd61ed06: Permission denied.
to come up?

Could you post the output of these three?
Code:
# mount -v
No need to show your dataset or iocage lines. Mainly looking for [pool]/.system entries.
Code:
# zfs mount
Same.
Code:
# zpool status
Looking for boot and main pool.

If the Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 wasn't all metal, I'd tell you to destroy it with fire.
Code:
root@freenas:~ # ls -l /var/db/system/rrd-ea02119b0df4495ba64ec1dbdd61ed06

That looks sane. You're viewing part of your main pool system data set. Can you view the directories within /var/db/system/rrd-ea02119b0df4495ba64ec1dbdd61ed06/localhost and the RRD formatted data files inside them?
