Has anyone done replication successfully to something other than a FreeNAS system? I have a 7120 that can't seem to see FreeNas as a replication target or source. I'm suspecting the 7120 won't replicate over the ethernet interface only fibre channel. However, we are replicating over a network interface from the Observatory in West Texas between two 7120's so that may not be the issue, just a wild guess.

Any insights would be helpful.

Thanks
Paul

Sadly that hasn't been that easy to do for quite a while. It's got nothing to do with the communications medium. These days the AK firmware (all the Sun/Oracle ZFS appliances) expects to replicate to another instance of AK, not any generic ZFS instance. Not to mention the ZFS versions won't match with FreeNAS. You can trick AK into replicating to a generic Solaris system's correctly configured ZFS pool, but it's not trivial. ZFS cross-implementation compatibility as a design goal died along with continued non-forked ZFS development as Open Source along with Sun.

Rule of thumb: If it says Oracle on the box, any dreams you had of interoperability will stay dreams.
