I have booted the installation ISO, selected to NOT install new version side-by-side but rather to install anew, wiping the old installation away. After installation, I log in to my new installation of TrueNAS CORE 13.0-U3.1 using new root password. In the notifications pane, I see prompts for syncthing update and somethings about scrubs being successful from some time ago.

How?

Did you restore your config after the new install?

Where is your system dataset? (most likely on your data pool... which is still there... meaning syslog is carried across).

No I did not restore anything. The pool/dataset is new, and I was warned all data on those disks will be destroyed.

I booted into Ubuntu live and gparted the NVME drive. Then reinstalled the same TrueNAS version and recreated the pool again. The notifications are finally gone.

My takeaway from this is that truenas’ ability to clean install is demonstrably broken/unreliable.
