At this point, I should point out that the hardware recommendations guide should be very helpful with this:

https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?resources/hardware-recommendations-guide.12/

And then discover the disks are slowly dying and need replacement. They are probably about 10 years old now.
And then discover the backplane needs updating to recognise SATA replacement disks. Not particulary expensive either though :

Of course this is pure supposition. But getting this server ready for FreeNAS may cost a lot at the end.

Alternatives to FreeNAS exists and I'll recommend give them a try before spending any money on this server.
If it's a TQ (eeeeewwwww...) or the SFF-8087 equivalent backplane, no further action is really needed. It's just a matter of acquiring enough SAS/SATA connectivity.

If it's an SAS1 expander, a new backplane is the way to go.

Either way, a new backplane still makes these older systems a good deal to get a Supermicro chassis.

My last argument, actually the killer one for me:
Flats are smalls and expensive in Paris and suburbs. Managing both a running supermicro server and a girlfriend at the same place is kind of mission impossible
