I was copying over some data from one Freenas box to another and I presumed the data in a zvol would be brought over but it wasn't, or at least it was, but it was as two flat blobs. It was a Zvol that was shared out on iSCSI and holds a VMFS file system with some VMs on it.

I could rebuild the VMs but I'd rather not if possible. I have the two files that hold the Zvol, since it was extended once from 500Gb to 1Tb.

Is there anyway to recover the Zvol from the files? Or perhaps to mount the Zvols and copy the data out?

The best way to mount the zvols is to mount it in whatever fashion you had used before.. in this case, since you did VMFS you'll have to use ESXi or an OS that supports VMFS. As far as I know, that means ESXi only.
