Hi Guys and Girls,

I'm having an issue with this Realtek chip RTL8111F it doesn't want to work. Tried installing the driver as per the instructions on an older thread but still no joy. I'm using 8.3.1 atm. Is there anything else I can try? Love Freenas use it on 2 other machines but this Realtek chip is suppose to be supported?

Any suggestions would be great :) Cheers,

Kurt

Maybe it was manufactured on a Monday. :p

Hmm it is a brand new motherboard though.

You've got a few options. Load another OS, perhaps a Linux LiveCD and test the NIC. If the OS supports the NIC and it still doesn't work, you could RMA the mobo. Or, just keep it, and stick an Intel pro/1000 (about $30 USD) in it and don't look back.

The Pro/1000 GT is probably a PCI card. The Pro/1000 CT is a PCI-e card. Don't know what kind of slots you have, but both work fine with FreeBSD.

Yeah its PCI don't have a PCI-E slot thanks to the mobo being cheap. Hey ho its not mine its for a friend who wants a cheap and cheerful NAS.

Cheers for the help and knowledge of how shite Realtek is ha.

Yeah, it's funny, because sometimes the stuff works fine and sometimes it doesn't. Proudly "Made for Microsoft Windows" with quality to match, I expect.
