Hi All

Hopefully someone can assist, I seem to have random reboots, nothing is showing up in the /mnt/NAS01/.system/crash or /var/crash or /mnt/NAS01/.system/cores

/var/log/messages shows nothing that I can see

the below is pre and post reboot

The server is a Dell 2950 Series III
BuildFreeNAS-9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)
PlatformIntel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5450 @ 3.00GHz
Memory32740MB
System TimeTue Jun 10 19:39:47 SAST 2014
Uptime7:39PM up 1:20, 1 user
Load Average0.67, 0.61, 0.54

6 x 1TB drives
ZFS etc etc

I have enabled the following in the advanced tab
tracebacks
autotune
debug kernel
auto upload of kernel crash dumps
and I have set the system dataset to be used for syslog

looking at the graphs I have not seen the CPU load go past about 10% and I have not seen more than about 10GB of RAM being used out of the 32GB I have available

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Everything looks okay. Only using 10GB of RAM may or may not be normal. Autotune should not be enabled per the manual, and you should remove any tunables and sysctls that exist from autotune.

However, pre-built stuff like your Dell 2950 Series III can often cause problems because it's not 100% compatible with FreeBSD/FreeNAS.

That's about all i can say.

Try moving the USB to another port. Try a different power supply.

Thanks for the input, I have removed the sysctls and tunables and disabled autotune, it was on by default after the install which is probably why I left it.

I have also not added any scheduled tasks like smart checks and ZFS Scrubs yet.

Ok still crashing / rebooting with no trace of why.
Any other ideas?

I have a Dell 2950 series II that runs fine, it may be some hardware conflict on the Series III but i would think it would at least show something in a crash dump

I've been having random reboots as well. About once a month. Wish I could help you, I have no idea either. Nothing in the logs. I even setup a console.. Nothing.

I have upgraded to the Beta and upgraded the RAID card Firmware. the system stayed up for more than 6 days,
but then rebooted again. The next stop is to disable the RAID card and just use the internal SATA.
The raid card is setup with 6 individual drives.

I'm surprised there is no way to somehow turn the system logging to like a debug level or something.

Do you have watchdog enabled? At least on my hardware when watchdog was enabled I was getting random reboots - it looks like FreeNAS has some problems keeping the watchdog alive thus forcing an automatic reboot.

Besides in the rc.conf file where do I find the watchdog? I have checked through the settings on the web interface and can't find it? can you point me in the right direction?

Have you checked your CPU temperature?

Does your BIOS have an error log?

the server's CPU's don't seem to get past about the 55C mark, and the chassis ambient is around 21C
have not seen anything in the bios error log
