Hello everyone

Loving using Truenas since a few weeks, I'm coming from Synology!

I have a 3 disk pool on RAIDZ1, today one of them failed and it shows as offline. My pool is now degraded but I'm not worried about my data as it's all backed up in the cloud (and the pool seems to be working fine for now). My question is if it's possible to "down-size" the pool to 2 disks? so instead to have to replace the failed one just "convert" the current pool to a 2 disk pool. Would that be possible?

Thanks

Short answer, no, you can not convert a RAID-Z1 pool to a 2 disk Mirror pool.

Long answer, yes.
  • Backup all data
  • Destroy existing pool
  • Create new 2 disk Mirror pool
  • Restore data to new 2 disk Mirror pool
