R510 - Mirroring Boot Drives

I have (2) 1TB drives in the 2.5" bays of the R510. I would like to have those mirrored/RAID1 for redundancy. I have the H200 flashed to a Avago / LSI 9211-8i IT.

I didnt see an option in the 9211-8i to configure a mirrored array. Can I do this in FreeNAS? All my option of pools, etc dont show the boot disk, just the spare.

Correct. The IT firmware omits the mirror code. The IR firmware has it, but this imposes a moderate performance penalty.

ZFS is supposed to be able to boot from redundant drives as long as they're not actually corrupted. I don't really trust that and I like to stick an H310 with IR firmware in attached to a pair of M.2 SATA SSD's for good measure, to handle boot, and then use an H200 for the bays and 2.5" drives.
