Hello,

we're using FreeNAS.9.2.1.5-Release-x64 (80c1d35) to backup several server with backupexec 2010 to a cifs share. The host (ESXi 5.5.0) is an Intel Xeon E5430@2.66 GHz (Dell PowerEdge 2950).
These backups often abort with this error message (see attachment / Backupexec error code E00084F4).
If I do the same backupjob to an usb device it works fine.

The backup server and the backupexec software is up to date.
BackupExec (Trialversion) aborts with the same error.

Has it ever worked or is this an itermittent problem?

Have you asked the question on Symantec's forums?

Since you appear to be doing disk to disk backups over your network, is there anything else (traffic wise) going on at the same time, that might interfere with these backups.

If you are backing up Windows servers, have you checked the event logs there to see if you can glean any additional information that might be useful.

Translate the error please.

First one says:

Storage device "Watchdog" communicated an error during the following command: Write data on the medium.

Error:

The system cannot open the file.

*code* An unknown error has occurred."

Second one says:

Storage device "VHCS3" communicated an error during the following command: Write data on the medium.

Error:

Access denied.

*code* An unknown error has occurred."

1. Yes "Zugriff verweigert" is the same as "access denied"
@gpsguy:
1.Sometimes the backup jobs work fine but next day we get this error message. (about 1 of 4 jobs works fine).
2. I haven't asked this problem in Symantec's forum. But I will do this in the next days.
3. There shouldn't be traffic problems at the same time.
4. The problem backup tasks are only linux server (webserver).
