Hi,

Is there an option to force whoever has physical access the the FreeNAS System to log in before interacting with the console? The root user is logged in there after booting.

It is possible to simply change the root password this way... :)

If you have physical access anything is possible. You can change the root password. You can have root shell access. Heck you can even plug in a new USB and boot into something else. So if you want to prevent someone from have console root access make sure to lock up your hardware.

shouldnt it be just possible to lock the console to increase the amount of work somebody has to do to access my data? "passwd" is just a couple of seconds, in many situations this would go unnoticed.
Anyone could do the same on my on my desktop computer, is this a reason to abandon my password there?

You only have the choice to turn off the console menu. That will make it so the menu doesn't appear and no one can login physically
