Well, yes, the M350 case is only 15 euro cheaper. I'm still hoping to find a cheap (while good) external power brick + 12v adapter cable.
Crossing fingers for you!

Well Seasonic does make external power adapters. I'm not sure of the quality of them as I've never used one but the name is synonymous with quality in the ATX power supply would. When I build that's likely what I will be going with.

Not sure if shipping is an issue but minibox sells a 60W EDAC adapter for $15 that should do the job if you're looking for another alternative.

Actually found a company making a miniature 12V UPS for mini PCs, for $70 US;

18 Wh capacity – typically enough for powering a mini-PC for 1 to 3 hours
http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/fit-uptime/fit-uptime-frequently-asked-questions/

It's really designed for their own line of miniature PCs, but other than the connector,
it should work fine with other 12 volt only, LOW power equipment. Looks like it can
supply 12V DC @ 5A, though lower amps means longer time, (up to 3 hours for a 5
watt PC like they sell).

Kinda wish they included a monitoring device with USB 2.0, so I can tell when to
perform a graceful shutdown. Oh well, ZFS is supposed to handle graceless shutdowns.

I fired away a few month ago and purchased the below for my pfSense build:

Supermicro C2558 Rangeley (2.4 ghz, 4-core, AES-NI and Quickassist enabled, 4 ports)
4gb ECC RAM (Had to go ECC here as non-ECC isnt supported on this board)
30GB mSata w/ 2.5in adapter
80W pico PSU and PS
M350 Mini-ITX Enclosure

Total cost = $380 USD

All parts from Amazon except board (Ebay $250) and RAM (Newegg $40)

Kingston ValueRAM KVR16LSE11/8HB 8GB DDR3L-1600 ECC

Well, here in NL there are 'Keel pills' which sound like a lot of fun (at least when you here it for the first time)...

And the mobo?
Same store. Too bad I coudn't find a discount anywhere, since it's by far the most expensive part. The other resellers I could find had only a few euros price difference.

I haven't seen them any much cheaper elsewhere actually.

EDIT: Well, except for the mobo, which is around 50 euros cheaper on the website @jgreco mentioned actually.

The pfsense forum has a lot more a-holes on it than the the FreeNAS forum. What a world of difference. I saw some thread over there, related to the mobo i bought, in which you paticipated. This guy is being trolled by some guy that calls himself "Administrator" (which i doubt he is) for trying to figure out an issue with his intel NICs (drivers). Also the first resonse on my hardware recommenration request was "I would go ahead and buy the most current and expensive piece of hardware that you can find in the ESF store, since no matter what I recommend, that what others will recommend and ultimately thats what you will go with." Yeah, great advice....

I sure hope that is not the common way of communication over there.
