Opinions on drives being marked offline?

I've been running Freenas for a couple of years on some fairly old hardware

Intel DG965WH mobo with Core2 E6600 @ 2.4Ghz, 8GB non-ECC RAM, and 4 x 2TB Seagate ST2000DL003 (Green Barracuda) in Z2

The problem I run into is that occasionaly, ALWAYS induced by very heavy indexing load by the plex jail on the system(re-indexing MP3 or photos directory's that each contain 10's of thousands of individual files) I will get SMART errors indicating that a drive has gone offline.

If I power the box down completely and then back on, the drive(s) will be fine. A warm boot will not clear the error.

Wondering if anyone would have an opinion on possible culprits? non-ECC memory? replace SATA cables?

It is really more annoying that anything, but now that I am sharing the plex libraries with a couple of family members, I am trying to improve uptime if at all possible.

Can you post the debug file for your box and the output of "smartctl -a /dev/XXX" for each applicable disk?

I won't lie to you, but don't be surprised if the end answer is "everything looks fine... don't use desktop grade boards for servers".

Well, the disk with serial number 6YD0PHJT logged some problem about 36 hours ago. So that drive in particular was the most recent to have problems.

I'd check to see if it has good power and data cables.

Your debug was a bit more interesting. The following problems were found:

ARP changes in dmesg which means conflicting IP addresses.
Samba errors related to null passwords being deprecated.
Conversation problems with smbd in the messages log.
LOTS of refused connections from 192.168.0.19 in the nginx-error.log
bad protocol version identifications from sshd in auth.log. I'm assuming this is because your ssh is open to the world???
There were some BIOS related messages on bootup that kind of hint that the hardware isn't the most ideal.

Other than that I'd say there is no smoking gun. But PSU and data cables are the first things I'd go checking.
