No ip address

I created a NEW bootable USB on one PC and sought to boot on another pc. On completion I was not presented an IP address. I tried manually configuring an ip address without avail.

The only thing that I can think of is that the boot USB must be 'compiled' on the same PC it will be used on. Can anyone please confirm if this is true?

Failing that, I intend to purchase a new nic from the approved hardware list.

No, that is not true. What hardware are you using?

Once you get back to us on what hardware you have and which version of FreeNAS you are attempting to use, the next question will be, have you ever had FreeNAS running on your hardware before? And if so, what is the reason for building up a new boot device? Did you have some problem?

Please provide as much data as possible because we do try to help folks but we are not at your system so we can only guess and that slows the entire process down.
