NIS client setup on FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1

Greetings FreeNAS users!

I've been playing with FN for a few months now and I love it!

The doc shows there's a GUI section for NIS config, but my version doesn't have one.

Is there a way to install the NIS client side? I haven't found a ypbind executable.

You must be referring to the wiki which is the area for creating documentation. The published User Guide for your version of FreeNAS (http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Main_Page) does not contain a section on NIS.

Thanks, dl. I was confused by this too.

I would also like to setup a NIS client (on 8.3.1). Is there a safe way outside the GUI? I quickly found myself questioning my efforts when looking to edit the config files in addition to not finding a ypbind binary.

Not easily as the necessary components aren't included in the 8.x images. Fortunately, 9.1.0 is due out soon.
