Dear All:

I am totally new to freenas...I've installed on 8GB flash and configured 3 x 500GB.

I was testing / trying to understand it...and I put some files and shared on Windows CIFS and I could access from Windows....then i made some changes again. Then I got lost.....not sure what I did and I can't see those files.

The storage shows 14 GiB used.

While those files are not so important, I'd like to know where these went.

Thanks & Regards

Welcome to FreeNAS!

Please follow forum rules and lost the specs of your system.

So I can tell you right now your description was so ambiguous that even a wizard couldn't begin to understand what you did. Seriously you didn't provide any relevant information for people to start troubleshooting and help you.

if you are testing - i recommend copying the files to freenas - "not putting"

Pretty vague, but just to see if the files still reside on FreeNas us the "ls" command in the shell (or via SSH using Putty):

Something like:

ls /mnt/Primary or ls /mnt/Primary/DataSet or ls /mnt/Primary/jails

But to be honest we have no idea what files you are seeking or what you really have placed on FreeNas..

You could even do something like: df -h /mnt/Primary/DataSet

$20 says the files are in a folder under the main dataset like @Mirfster said.

Wherever the CIFS share points to is where you are likely to see your files, assuming you didn't delete them. If course if you deleted your CIFS share or messed around with it, it may not point there again.
You could even do something like: df -h /mnt/Primary/DataSet
I like this option the best, it fits better with the data provided.
