I have a FreeNAS box running v9.2.1.2 being accessed by a Win7 system.
When a new file is created with Windows within a CIFS share that's mapped as a network drive, either manually or by a program (such as unzipping or an installation program), the new files do not inherit the permissions from the parent folder -- they always are created with 660 mask. They also do not get the permissions specified by the File Mask settings in the CIFS service settings (770). I've tried this with both Unix and Windows type datasets, and they both have the same results. I'm able to access the files with Windows and manually change the permissions to what I'd like.
New folders do inherit the correct permissions, so it seems to just be specific to new files not inheriting permissions.
Any ideas why folder permissions are inherited, but file permissions are not?
