I've recently aquired an "old" server from work thats no longer under maintance and i was allowed to take it home with me.

Keep in mind that I got this totally for free so no bashing on stuff i didn't buy ;)

that being said:

its a bull Novascale T830E1 (for whoever knows these things)
if I copy the intel from the nas homepage:
Hostname freenas.local
Build FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-p2-x64 (r12686+b770da6_dirty)
Platform Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3110 @ 3.00GHz
Memory 2029MB

(i'm aware of the amount of ram being an issue but for now 2gig EEC ram is all i have)

now according to what i see inside the server there is a 6 bay connected to what appears to be (in my eyes) a raid controller.
If I google the bull novascale i see he has this as controller:
LSI Megaraid SAS 8708EM2 RAID Controller

THat being said, if i connect my HD to the motherboard directly it get recongnized immediately. If i configure my raid controller to be in IDE mode and put the HD inside the bay it doesn't appear to be recognized anymore.
Now since i'm kinda new to raid controllers and stuff, i'm thinking its connected to that.
I read somewhere that i shouldn't use the raid controller in raid modus but have freenas zfs handle that.
With that being said, i have 3 options for my raid controller IDE, RAID and ADHCI (or something).

Any hints/suggestions on what i can do to make freenas recongnize my HD?
