Hi. I currently have a gigabyte h110m s2h motherboard and was thinking about replacing it. I have two choices. ASUS WS C246M PRO or ASUS WS C246 PRO. Which do you recommend? and above all, this model is perfectly compatible with truenas?

Ps. This socket is lga1151, perfectly compatible with my i3-6100

Both are good enough. The M PRO/SE version has IPMI which is great, while the non-M PRO version has better PCIe expansion slots, greater maximum RAM and more m.2 slots.

The only motherboards perfectly compatibile with TN are the supermicro's, because those are the ones shipped within iX's systems.

You have to look at what you want, the non-M version has better expandibility for future upgrades (more drives, more RAM, etc), the M PRO/SE version has IPMI.

Attention, the M version is not M PRO/SE, just M PRO (link asus). Unfortunately I can't take a supermicro because I go over my budget.

Reading the characteristics are the same, or am I wrong? also because the non-M has many pci slots and I certainly won't use them all. That's why I was undecided between the two

You get one more m.2 slot, USB BIOS flashback (great without IPMI), and plenty of PCIe slots for both an HBA or a NVMe card and a 10G card. Or a dedicated card for transcoding. That's assuming your CPU can use all of that goodness.

If size is not of concern I would go with the full ATX model since it comes with more options.

As a side note, the i3-6100 appears to be a soldered/embedded CPU.

I had previously mounted it in a desktop PC
Yeah it's not an issue, was a mistake from my part.

I do however suggest you to consider used supermicro boards. On eBay you can find a couple sold in the EU market (so no import fee), mainly from germany.
