contemplating the merits of a supermicro board + xeon, or a standard desktop mobo and a low end pentium chip. both with 32gb ram, the server version obviously with ecc ram. this change would save me alot of $$. is a low end pentium enough proc power to drive 20 2TB drives in 2 raid arrays ?
it is currently humming along fine pushing a single raid 5 on debian 8 2TB drives, at like 5% cpu use.
looking at : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130643 vs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182262 + xeon chip + ecc ram. yes i want the 3 pcie16 slots, raid card ( acting as HBA), sas expander card, and 2 port intel nic.
also, will/would freenas be able to use this onboard realtec nic? possible also able to bond it with 2 intel nics?
